'Defending the national will is building the future'

Turkish Maarif Foundation President Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün made a presentation on "Defending the National Will is Building the Future" at the Marmara University Faculty of Theology on the occasion of the “July 15 and Educational Mobilization in the Outside World” Symposium.

The fourth International July 15 Symposium, organized by Üsküdar Municipality, Marmara University and July 15 Association, was held in the conference hall of Marmara University Faculty of Theology.

Justice Minister Abdulhamid Gul, Üsküdar Mayor Hilmi Turkmen, Turkish Maarif Foundation President Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, July 15 Association President Tarık Şebik, Journalist and Author Nedim Şener, Former President of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Bardakoğlu, Marmara University History Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Ali Satan, President of the Lawyers Association Lawyer Cavit Tatlı and Middle East Expert Dr. Said el-Haj attended the symposium as speakers.

During the program, Minister Gül talked about the trial of FETO members and the opening Hagia Sophia to worship.

Taking the floor, Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün explained that after the December 17-25 operations, the government has decided to not leave blank the education sector, and that was the reason why Turkish Maarif Foundation was established.

While seven members of Turkish Maarif Foundation Board of Trustees are appointed by the President of the Republic of Turkey, five others are appointed by the Council of Ministers, reminded Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, and the name of “Turkish Maarif Foundation” was proposed by the former Minister of National Education Prof. Dr. Nabi Avcı. Emphasizing that Turkish Maarif foundation was not only established to fight against the terrorist organization FETO, Akgün declared, “We will keep commemorating July 15. However, we widen our horizons towards 2071. There is a Turkey that is an establisher of peace in the region, fulfilling many roles and Turkish Maarif Foundation is working in the same perspective.”
